  • Roosevelt Hawk Parade

When ask what inspired Mrs. Hotchkiss to get the parade organized she said "I got the idea from Facebook and seeing other schools from other districts doing this for their kids.  I’ve had lots of parents messaging me through Remind that their kids missed me and their friends and school. I know that all the teachers miss our kids too.  I wanted to do something that would show our kids that we care, we miss them, and we haven’t forgotten them.  I felt it would be a great way to connect with our kids, their families, and the community. I messaged Linda first, asking her permission before I sent out the email to everyone.  She was very supportive and thought it was a great idea.  I then sent the email to the staff and got a tremendous amount of support.  Thankfully, Ms. Bolling took the initiative to begin to draw out a parade route.  Then Mrs. Garza, being a teacher who lives in Selma, refined the route for us and offered to be our lead car.  Everyone did an amazing job decorating their cars with signs, posters, window paint and balloons!  I know that many teachers, including myself, cried during the parade seeing our kids and their families, and the outpouring of support they had for us as well. It lifted ALL of our spirits and united us as one family in this together and supporting each other through this pandemic. "
